A modern yet timeless bakery identity rooted in craftsmanship and everyday warmth.

Artisan Breads is a conceptual local bakery brand based in Vancouver. True to its name, the bakery centers on craftsmanship, with artisans baking fresh bread every morning. This project aimed to create a modern yet timeless brand identity that reflects this sense of care and tradition, while also developing a prototype cookie package to explore how the identity extends into physical products.

LOGO DEVELOPMENT

Designing a Meaningful Logo Through Craft and Modernity

The design process explored how to merge craftsmanship with modern simplicity to create a meaningful and distinctive identity. In a market filled with bakery and café brands, the goal was to develop a logo that felt unique while staying rooted in artisan culture.

Research and sketching drew inspiration from the scoring patterns on handcrafted loaves. Over 30 concepts were explored, with two directions developed digitally. The final logo was selected for its clarity, versatility, and strong visual presence.

The symbol combines an artisan’s hand, bread scoring marks, and a four-leaf clover, representing craftsmanship, care, and small moments of joy. It was also developed into a pattern system, keeping the identity consistent and adaptable across applications.

Alternative Logo Concept

This concept was also inspired by the beautiful patterns found on artisan breads. The symbol is constructed from a ribbon form and the brand’s initials, “AB,” combining decorative detail with brand recognition.
